I have seen and been told that anything from $120-150 per hour is normal. Sometimes it just depends on the studio and the tattoo. If you are looking at pricing your work, see how long it takes you to do it, and take it from there, and add 20% for extra's and stuff. That also give's you some room to negotiate over price as well if need be.

Just my thoughts on it though, and I don't work in a studio, just from a business pov.

We charge $120 per hour and on longer sittings it's $100 per hour... $50 deposit which comes off the end price.. I reckon we are WAY too cheap, just my opinion...

The surrounding competition just went up to $180 per hour, $80 consultation fee (just to talk to them about an idea), and $100 drawing fee!!

I believe $150 per hour is a good and competitive rate, I also reckon $50 (at least) drawing fee should become normal in the industry, paid when the client asks you to design their idea. I am only a newbie but am already sick of spending hours on designs for clients that don't turn up, change their mind 700 times, or insist that their stick figure art was the WAY they want it tattooed!! yeah over here we charge a £40 or £100 deposit for designs, but we take it off the price of the tattoo when the customer gets it done! its just a gaurantee for time and effort spend on a drawing and some commitment on their part
